Prior to departing Meridian and the Boise, Idaho area yesterday, I had a lazy breakfast with my son Ray, daughter-in-law Jennifer and my grand daughter Ellery at JB's Restaurant in Meridian. While I am at it let me give JB's Restaurant a plug. They are a very good all purpose restaurant. They have an all you can eat breakfast bar which turns into an all you can eat lunch and dinner and salad bar as the day goes on.
It is because of places like JB's Restaurant that I am considering programming a "Greasy Spoon Restaurant and Diner" recommendation and rating system. I don't eat out very often but when I do I like to try different places and I am thinking that it will be easier for me to find them with the help of the visitors to my web site to tell me where the best ones are at.
Anyway, back to my move from the Boise area to La Grande, Oregon
. Even with the late start of 11:00 AM I arrived in La Grande about 1:30 PM. Now before you decide to report me for speeding I crossed from the Mountain Time Zone into the Pacific Time Zone which gained me an extra hour.
I pulled straight into my reserved RV space and was hooked up in less than an hour. I then went out for a little drive to look things over then headed back to my RV to relax for the evening. I didn't notice it the other week when I came to La Grande for my scouting mission to find a place to stay, but there is a definite shortage of coffee houses here in La Grande. If you know anything at all about me you will realize that I spend practically every morning in one coffee shop or another. Looks like I may not be able to do that here in La Grande which is a disappointment.
The only coffee shop I have found so far is only a block away from where I am staying which is a Starbucks Coffee House. At first I was relieved but when I went in and tried to get a toasted bagel with cream cheese and I found out they don't toast them anymore at Starbucks. They only had one bagel in some flavor I never heard of so I went for just plain coffee, which is always good at Starbucks. Don't be surprised if I dedicate a whole "Complaint Department" posting to this topic in the near future. I guess I will miss my morning coffee at Hastings Book Store in Meridian. They not only had great coffee (Jamaica Me Crazy) but toasted their bagels and had cream cheese.
After coffee I went again for a little drive. I drove up to the Eastern Oregon University campus and I could see some things that looked familiar from when I attended in 1965. Of course it was Eastern Oregon College or EOC back then. Next I took a little drive over to Imbler where I went to and graduated from High School in 1965.
In 1965 the Imbler School had 202 students enrolled Kindergarten through 12th grade. In my graduation class we had 14 students. I'm sure Imbler School is a little bigger but not much. It appears to still be an all grades school.
The school is pretty much the same. There are a couple of more buildings but the school still looks pretty much as I remember. I also drove around to the old house we lived in and it is still there. The house was over 50 years old when we lived in it and it looks pretty much the same these 40 plus years since.
After Imbler I headed back to my RV stopping at the Walmart Super Center in Island City. I have scheduled this summer to be pretty much a working summer. You see I have decided to hire a web programmer (Me, after all I am one) to build me some independent and automated income streams using the web. I realized my current business mode was mostly based on my direct output as a programmer on an hourly basis. I am starting to look toward the future and I want to get some more passive income streams that will work for me while I am sleeping or on vacation or whatever I am doing. This method requires a lot of up front work but then after that up front work is done I will be able to start taking things a little easier. So this summer is going to be dedicated to my up front work.
