I had planned on leaving yesterday but had so much work come in all it once that I delayed until today to leave. My original plan was to stop off in Independence, Missouri to visit the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library. But when I tried to find an RV Park in Independence I found only a couple and the one I wanted to visit was booked up for about 10 days. The other RV Park never returned my call.
So, I decided to make a mid course correction and press on toward Denver. I will drive through until mid afternoon then start looking for an RV Park and take the first good one I come upon. I will try to get somewhere west of Topeka, Kansas.
I got a late start leaving Branson. After being in Branson for six weeks I had spread out a lot and had to spend extra time stowing away. Anyway, I got underway about 10:30 and headed north toward Kansas City. I left with a rather ambitious goal of getting west of Topeka, Kansas. Well, I didn't make it. I am about 30 miles south of Kansas City. I got here about 2:30 and realized I would be passing through Kansas City and Topeka during the evening's rush hour. Not me. I decided to pull off at the first RV Park I could find after getting in range of the Verizon EVDO Broadband service.
I am so relieved to have a decent High Speed Internet connection again. After six weeks suffering through on a bad internet connection while in Branson it is so welcome.
I am now in a small town named Peculiar, Missouri and staying in the Peculiar Park Place RV Park. This is a really nice RV Park! It is laid out really well with lots of room around most if not all the spaces. I would not mind spending a week or so here. If ever I pass this way again I will plan to stay here for a while.
As I was approaching the RV Park I passed 5 fire engines leaving the park. While checking in I found out that one of the RV's had a fire and burned completely out. They said that the refrigerator which was a Norton had caught fire. People in the office said that the Norton refrigerator was probably one of the ones that had been recalled a few years ago.
My plan is to depart fairly early so that I will pass through Kansas City and Topeka after the morning rush and well before the evening rush. Just how far I will get tomorrow will depend on traffic, how tired I get and how easy it will be to find an RV Park. Hopefully most if not all the way west through Kansas.
