Well I am finally underway. I am now en route to St. George, Utah where I plan to spend at least one week. This will of course depend on my finding a nice RV Park, the weather and my ability to connect to the internet.
I was excited about finally getting back on the road again but I also had some reservations. My granddaughter Ellery is at that really cute age. She will turn 4 on December 24th. As a career Sailor and Navy Officer I spent a lot of time away from home and missed a lot of my kids growing up. My lust for travel is even more intense these days than it was when I was in the Navy. This disparity is why I use Boise as the crossing point of a figure 8. I usually pass through Boise between my trips south and east or west of Boise.
I plan to take a couple of leisure travel days on my transit to St. George, Utah. When I say leisure I mean I plan to not travel more than a couple hundred miles a day.
While in St. George I plan to visit Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. I have driven through Zion before but I have never been to Bryce Canyon National Park before so I am looking forward to visiting the park. From my Navy Days when I was stationed in Pearl Harbor onboard the USS Goldsborough DDG-20 and the USS John Marshall SSBN-611 I remember the USS Bryce Canyon AD-36 or as we called it Building 36. In the 3 years I was stationed at Pearl Harbor (1976 - 1979) I never once saw the Bryce Canyon get underway. Now that is not to say she didn't because during those years I made two westpacs on the Goldsborough and 2 SSBN detergent patrols aboard the John Marshall.
From St. George I will be off to Las Vegas for a month or so.
