One year ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite A105 Laptop and have generally been pleased with the machine. That is until about a month and a half ago. Something got corrupted in my Windows OS where I could not get past the login screen. In fact I could get to the login screen for about 3 or 4 seconds then my screen went blank.
I was able to boot up in safe mode and access all my files and off load them to my backup computer so I lost no data. The mere fact that I could login in safe mode told me the problem was a driver or some other corrupted Windows system file. So I went looking for my restore discs and could not find them. I never got a set when I purchased the computer. That will never happen again.
Next, I went online looking for a place to order a system restore disc for my Toshiba Satellite A105 Laptop and found digitalmedia-labs.com. I placed an order and waited the 4 to 5 business days they told me that it would take to receive the discs. After 10 days I contacted them and got a message back saying that it had been shipped. After that one initial message from digitalmedia-labs.com I never heard from them again. I waited another week then went into PayPal and opened a dispute so I could get a refund. digitalmedia-labs.com never responded to my dispute and after a week I escalated the dispute up to have it adjudicated. PayPal ruled for me and I finally got a refund. I never did hear from digitalmedia-labs.com again.
After I realized I was not going to get my discs from digitalmedia-labs.com I called Toshiba America Inc technical support and they agreed that it was a Windows driver or system file problem. I ordered the restore disc from them with expedited shipping. The technician told me it would be here in 3 - 4 business days. After 6 business days I called back and a different technician told me the discs were on back order. I asked when were they going to tell me my discs were on back order. I got no answer only a sorry. She said I could call back after two business days.
Well I waited another week and I called again and this time I was told that it had shipped. But they shipped it to my (credit card) billing address, which is also the mail forwarding address I use as a full time RVer, and not to the address I had given them. I had given the first technician my current address where I am staying in Idaho but they didn't use it.
Anyway the following week I got the system restore disc and in a couple of hours I had a restored to factory condition working laptop. Now all I have to do is reload it with all my programs and reset all my settings, Windows classic theme, mouse pointer sizes. The list goes on an on. What a pain!
All in all what had been my primary computer for my online business was out of service for 6 weeks. I will never, let me take that back I don't like to say never, so lets say it will be a long, long time before I will buy a Toshiba computer again. Even if their computers are good their tech support sucks!
