I departed Memphis, Tennessee this morning for Branson, Missouri which is my ultimate destination for this current road trip. I have been making my way toward Branson since I left Phoenix, Arizona in February.
I have decided to try and make it all the way to Branson from Memphis if it is not too long a journey. Yahoo Maps says it will take 6 hours and 18 minutes (approx). Now that is a little longer than I normally like to travel in a single day. I have done it a few times but I am usually very tired by the time I arrive. But when I do travel that long on a single leg it is usually my last leg before getting to a final destination. Like this. So I may very well do it. If I get too tired I will stop along the way somewhere. That is always a good backup plan.
Trip went faster and better than I expected. I left about 9:00 AM and arrived at 3:00 PM. Again it was a very scenic trip. From Memphis to Little Rock (about 170 miles) was Interstate all the way. However from Little Rock to Branson (about 140 miles) was state highway (Arkansas 65) all the way. This was very scenic but much slower traveling than the Interstate was. In some ways more enjoyable. I was able to see a lot of pretty country side.
One note here for those following the cell phone coverage in the area. I stayed connected with my Verizon service all the way. From Little Rock to Branson I even received two emails. However with my Sprint service I lost service just outside of Little Rock and never got service again until I was across the Missouri border. When I say no service, I mean none. Not even roaming.
After arriving in Branson I checked the connection speeds for my Internet Access PC Cards for both Sprint and Verizon and both were barely above dial up speeds. The RV Park I am staying at is the Turkey Creek RV Village and fortunately they have High Speed Wifi so I can maintain good internet connectivity here.
The RV Park I am staying in is in Hollister, Missouri which is border to border with Branson. After I arrived and got the RV setup I went for a little drive and wow! I only saw a little of the attractions but there sure is a lot here that I saw. I saw Dick Clark's American Bandstand Theater, a bunch of others and I saw a "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" museum, I saw a Carnival, not the traveling kind but a permanent one, with a roller coaster and Ferris Wheel. It was kind of a blur because there was so much to see. Over the next few days I will do a more thorough scouting mission to see what there is to see.
In a day or two I will add a review of the Elvis Presley Blvd. RV Park and a Stay Report for Memphis.
