Ray Plumlee's Comments :
I grew up with Elvis. The first 45 RPM record and LP I ever purchased were by Elvis Presley. I loved his singing and I loved to watch all his movies. Corny as some of them were they had a quality that kept me going back to see them again and again. I now have several DVD copies of my favorites.

In 1970 or 1971 I attended one of Elvis's concerts at the Sports Arena in San Diego. So I guess it's only fair to say that while I was in Memphis I had to go to Graceland.

There are several things to see at Graceland. Below are just the main places.

The Mansion:
The mansion is an audio guided tour that takes you through the living room, music room, Elvis's parents' bedroom, the dining room, kitchen, TV room, poolroom, the wildly famous Jungle Room, and the main house annex. After touring the mansion, you tour Elvis' racquetball building, original business office, shooting range and trophy building.

The mansion tour ends with a visit to the Meditation Garden where Elvis and his family are buried. This is, of course, the highlight of the tour.

The Automobile Museum:
Elvis' Automobile Museum has over 20 vehicles that Elvis drove or rode in during his life, including his 1955 pink Cadillac, 1973 Stutz Blackhawk, and his Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Let me add here that I actually saw his pink Cadillac once before. It was on display in 1968 in Perth, Australia. I was on shore leave there when I was stationed on the USS Providence CLG-6. We were taking a leisure trip back to the states after completing a two year deployment.

The Airplanes:
The tour of Elvis' custom jets begins in a mock retro airport terminal where a video history of the airplanes is shown. After that, you are allowed to go aboard Elvis' two airplanes, the Hounddog II and the famous Lisa Marie, which features both a living room and private bedroom.

Sincerely Elvis:
The Sincerely Elvis exhibit features memorabilia showcasing Elvis' personal life. Here you are given the opportunity to experience what life was like for Elvis during the height of his career. The contents of the exhibit change yearly, showcasing a different time in Elvis' life.

Elvis After Dark:
Elvis After Dark includes the King's clothing, personal items, and photography that help visitors to experience a typical night in the life of Elvis Presley, both while at home and while at work in the studio.
