Ray Plumlee's Comments :
Been waiting a long time to make this little day trip! I was staying just North of Tucson on Highway 89 so I took it up to the East Entrance. My first scenic stop was at Desert View. This was my first incredible glimpse of the Grand Canyon in over 40 years. My last visit was as a teenager during a family vacation.

The view is absolutely spectacular! It is a sight everyone should see. Desert View is a great place to look at the Grand Canyon. There is an ancient tower there called "The Watch Tower." The original name and purpose of the "The Watch Tower" is lost to history but it's current title is appropriate.

I then went west to the Yavapai Hotel and Market Plaza for lunch. After lunch I went to Mather Point and walked along the Rim Trail taking pictures of the Canyon. Here again, the view is the most spectacular scenic view you will ever see. I am afraid I don't have the eloquence to describe it.

After leaving Mather Point I drove around Grand Canyon Village seeing where they coral all the mules for their Mule Back tours. I also saw the Grand Canyon Railway Train Depot with one of the trains in the depot. Then I headed south out of the park back to Flagstaff.

Until 1 March 2007 after visiting the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico I realized that there were some unique and special places that deserve a special rating. To date only the Grand Canyon and the Carlsbad Caverns are two such natural treasures. So I have reprogrammed my rating system for a new rating of 5 + Stars.

Here I am standing on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. I was parked at Mather Point and walked along the Rim Trail Taking pictures as I go and having mine taken.

No scenic destination would be complete (at least not here at Have Web Sites Will Travel) without the obligatory Traveling Webmaster Truck.

And I have been to Grand Canyon before in Late 1950's.

Traveling Webmasters Comments about his previous visit in Late 1950's. :
The last time I visited the Grand Canyon was during a family vacation. Since both of my parents are now gone I can't ask them about some details. But I seem to remember it was the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Well it really doesn't matter. I am sure it is equally spectacular from either rim.
