Review:
Sea World is worth the visit. In addition to the rides and shows, the grounds are well kept and neighborly. Great place to spend a day. For long time visitors, note that the really great nightly fireworks have been suspended due to environment nuts complaining about toxic emissions from fireworks displays falling into Mission Bay. If you plan on spending a few days, or are bringing the grandkids for Holiday, buy their annual pass on the Web. It is a great bargain.
Many nearby places to visit, such as Balboa Park, the San Diego zoo, Coronado (the Strand) beaches, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, Old Town, the Gaslamp Quarter and La Jolla (uppity, but fun). The ponies run at Del Mar Race Track run in July and August, and the annual Fair at the same location is worth attending.
Plan in advance for a place to park your RV. San Diego is NOT RV friendly. No RV street parking overnight, absolutely no City parks parking between 2:00 and 4:00 AM and don't bother to bring your cigarettes. Smoking is prohibited on all of the beaches and in the parks.
For overnight RVs, plan ahead and reserve a spot at either the State park in Coronado (the Strand) or on Mission Bay (Mission Bay RV Park). Costs run between $28 and $60 per night. Or, plan to stay at any of the Wal-Marts (San Diego is not Wal-Mart friendly, either. They just voted down any super store in the city).
If you are over 60, and plan to stay a little while, a "Senior Citizens Bus Pass" is highly recommended. Buy them almost everywhere for $15. for the calendar month. Bearer gets free rides on all public buses and the trolley. Take a 30 minute ride "daytime" to Tijuana, walk across the border and buy a blanket or 3 month supply of medicines - bring your doctor's prescription. Be sure to bring your Passport for visits to Mexico, and expect a return wait of up to an hour at customs.
Best time to visit is September to November. Clear skies, warm temps, friendly locals.
